Systematically collect and analyze data

Process Data Acquisition

Process data acquisition (PDA) involves systematically collecting and analyzing data generated during production processes. This data can include information about machines, material flow, energy consumption, production speed, product quality, and much more. Such data is usually collected in real time and can help optimize the production process, identify bottlenecks, and increase efficiency.

How does data acquisition work?

The first step is to define which data is relevant and available.

Data Sources:

  • Machine and sensor data: Recording of temperature, pressure, flow, speed, etc.
  • Production control systems (e.g., SCADA, MES, PLS, PLC): Real-time data from the production line.
  • Operating and order data (ERP): Information on production orders, capacity utilization, quantities

The data must then be collected from the relevant sources.

Automated Data Collection:

  • Data is automatically collected by sensors, machine controls (e.g., PLCs), production equipment, and other devices.
  • This eliminates manual data entry, which increases the accuracy and reliability of the data.

Real-time Monitoring:

  • With real-time data, companies can respond immediately to deviations or malfunctions, reducing downtime and ensuring product quality.
  • Real-time monitoring also makes it possible to continuously track the status of machines (e.g., temperature, pressure, speed) and perform predictive maintenance.

Integration of Data Sources:

  • Process data acquisition involves the integration of various data sources, e.g., machine controls, sensors, ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems, and MES (manufacturing execution systems).
  • The integration of these systems provides a comprehensive overview of the entire production process.

This is where KRIS comes into play. KRIS connects directly to your machine via an interface. With the standard OPC UA interface, parameters can be queried and also written back. Particularly convenient: our “Tag import” tool automatically retrieves the data from the PCS 7 or WinCC process control system.

Once the interfaces have been configured, the data is queried at fixed intervals. KRIS offers time intervals in the millisecond range. All selected parameters are then stored in a database and are available for visualization.

Manual Data Collection – For Values Without Sensors

Not all data can be collected automatically – e.g., microbiological measurements in wastewater treatment plants or other values for which no sensors are available.

KRIS Offers a Simple Solution for Such Cases:

  • Values can be entered directly into a metering device and automatically transferred to KRIS.
  • Companies that still rely on manual rounds benefit from a significant simplification of these processes.
  • Each value is time-stamped, ensuring complete documentation.
  • Manual errors are reduced – entry is faster and more secure than with paper or Excel.
  • Multiple rounds can be planned and managed for even better organization.

Why KRIS

Benefits of Process Data Acquisition

Increased efficiency: Continuous monitoring and analysis enable production processes to be made more efficient and bottlenecks to be eliminated at an early stage.

Cost reduction: Optimization of resources and energy consumption leads to a reduction in production costs.

Quality assurance: Monitoring critical process parameters ensures the quality of the end products.

Traceability: Every batch or product can be tracked along the entire production chain, which helps with traceability and audits.

Predictive maintenance: Faulty or worn parts can be identified and replaced early on before failures occur.
